Mount Rainier National Park Engagement Photography & Videography

This Mount Rainier National Park engagement session was exactly the kind of adventure we love.  Adventurous, laid back, and full of opportunity for creativity.  Jacob and Hannah picked Mount Rainier because of their history in the park and the fact that it was one of their favorite places.  It has grown to be one of ours as well.  We were here two months prior but caught it on a rainy couple days, which although is still beautiful, doesn’t really do the mountain justice.  Check that session out here.

Photography & Videography

We love capturing sessions in both photography and videography.  As well as film photography.  Film brings in a tangible real feeling to the images where digital gives a lot more room for creativity and more candid moments.  We love authentic interactions and both these forms work for that but videography brings the movement, allowing the couple to go right back to feel and experience of their session.  

The Engagement Session 

We started in the paradise area of the park and hiked up the Skyline Trail to get a great view of Rainier as well as the surrounding mountains.  The sunset turned out beautiful and we got all the color we could ask for.  We stayed after sunset to just take it in and I can’t remember a sunset as spectacular as this one.  Being in this spot with an amazing couple and having a digital and film camera was a true blessing.  

The next morning we woke up early to head back to Skyline Trail since their were wildfires in the Sunrise area of the park.  Its always a great idea to have a backup plan for a Mount Rainier Engagement session as the weather can change in an instant.  We hiked the opposite way up and had another amazing display of color in the sky with one of the most memorable sunrises.  We also ran into a couple of bears on the trail which always brings a bit more adventure to the engagement session.  Seeing the mountain do their thing is so wonderful especially when the last time all we saw was rain and mist.  Once our morning session was done we grabbed some coffee, I set up my tent for the night and went for an amazing run up to Pinnacle Peak.  Anytime I’m out shooting in the mountains I try to get a quick couple runs to get the blood flowing through the legs and scout locations for future sessions.  

Once back from the run we had another sunset session.  We chose Louise Lake for some mountainous lake shots.  Again, Rainier didn’t disappoint.  We waded out into the water a bit and caught some of the last bits of sun on the lake.  This Mount Rainier engagement session was one we will remember for a long time to come.  These ended up being some of our favorite images we have ever taken on both digital and film photography.  

A couple quick tips

When planning your Mount Rainier Engagement session make sure to be ready for adventure.  Be flexible as the mountain dictates the mood of the day.  Make sure to have comfortable shoes to hike (you can always change on the mountain) and wear layers.  As soon as the sun goes down the temperature starts to drop and you want the walk down to not be miserable.  Check all the rules and trail conditions on the National Park Website.  Oh, and don’t forget the flash light because you will want to take in every moment of the sunset up on the mountain!
